The Disciplinary contains a precise definition of “vegetable tanned leather”, establishes that the production process in its qualifying phases is carried out entirely on the Tuscan territory and provides that the leathers produced under the Vegetable Tanned Leather brand in Tuscany comply with a technical production sheet with precise physical and chemical parameters of reference.
Among the various tanning methods, vegetable tanning is the most traditional and recognizable. It imparts highly characteristic intrinsic properties to leather, determining a wide range of application and uniqueness of the product.
The vegetable-tanning process is based on the use of tannins, the active ingredient responsible for the transformation of the animal hide into a compact and resistant material. Tanins can be found in many different trees and plants, in variable concentration according to the different species. These natural tannin extracts make vegetable-tanned leather unique and easily distinguishable.
